Our physical environment is constantly influencing our emotions and general well-being. In the same way, the design of counselling clinics may affect the therapeutic experience of mental clients, as well as therapists.
Designers tried to keep the form of the design curvature as it affects the user’s perception of psychological safety, intimacy, willing to trust, to build therapeutic rapport. The colors are of pastel shades, which helps to calm minds of the clients.
1) What were the key challenges faced during the project?
We aren’t always aware of it, but our physical environment is constantly influencing our emotions and general well-being. In the same way, the design of clinics and counseling rooms may affect the therapeutic experience of mental clients, as well as the experience of therapists themselves. So keeping all these things in mind, we had come out with such a space where people who visit here feel inviting, comforting and calm so that they can open up to their therapists! 2) Inspiration behind choice of materials and colors?
Soft tones are more soothing as per us. So pastel colour shades were used, which helps to calm minds of the users, which is more important for mental clients. Used soft furnishing and flooring materials like rugs which provides a soothing feel to the space and creates a sense of comfort. We kept few plants in the space which can add to a positive therapeutic experience. 3) Key design interventions that make the project unique?
We have tried to keep the form of the design curvature as it affects service user perceptions of psychological safety, intimacy, willingness to self- disclose, to build therapeutic rapport, and to feel a sense of agency in the space.
4) What was the first reaction of the client towards the project? They couldn't be anything but happier as we provided them with something exactly that they'd asked for. And we aren't talking of design here but the feel of the space. That was our 1st brief from their end, and looking at their happy faces, we believe we did it!
