This Mixed Use Community Space Cum Café Should be on Your Go-To List in Bangalore

Go Native, Jayanagar by Treelight Design

The new Go Native outlet in Jayanagar is a lifestyle store plus community space, which hosts sustainable local brands and a yoga studio along with an attached café.

The intent of this project was to build a space that creates awareness about sustainable living practices and how easy it is to make these choices. Naturally, designers Treelight Design at had to carefully integrate methods of sustainable design into this space.

Materials from the existing structure were reclaimed to build the additional balcony, walls and roofs. The doors, windows and grills from the site were used to create the exterior walls, and two old wooden pillars were used as structural support for the balconies.

A thoughtful infusion of South Indian elements in the roof of the multipurpose hall is created by creating patterns inspired by ‘Mandala’ style along with traditional ‘Attangudi’ tiles for the flooring that boast a jigsaw pattern and jute fabric paneled shutters for the storage cupboards.

Other sustainable systems include: solar panels, compost bins, and a rain water harvesting system.
