Pune Based Beauty Care Salon Gets an Earthy Makeover

Kavya: Beauty Care Salon by Studio Infinity

Conceived in a tight space, this beauty care salon in Pune features handmade terracotta tiles, bamboo rafters and blue cement flooring.

This project was all about helping a client realize her dreams. Right from the first meeting, the thought process and design interventions revolved around creating an identity for this small and lesser known parlor.

Furthermore, the designers have tried to integrate art thru’ fabrics, paintings and even handmade terracotta plates, all customized to govern aesthetics of this space. The in situ pigmented blue cement floor was conceived to be a key feature of the outdoors. All these elements with their textures, colours and sheer aesthetics, were intended to define the users ‘sensorial experience'.

"We have retained both existing trees, used salvaged packing wood and bamboo to create an inviting outdoor space. Lastly, it was the end result to see our client happy as the renovated space has fetched her new clients and there has been no looking back for her. Our design intent, in a way was achieved.", added the designers at Pune based firm Studio Infinity.

The project was initiated by addressing the aspect of tight space, firstly by re-shaping the indoors & then by integrating the outdoors (which otherwise was a dead space.) Then considering her functional requirements, the exact usage of both these spaces was defined. Keeping in mind that the said space is surrounded by other houses overlooking it closely and moreover this being a ladies parlour, maintaining the aspects of privacy was crucial.

Overall design vocabulary was conceived to create visuals and decor that will be attractive for all class of clients. Items of arts and craft were integrated in the designs right from the planning stage. This parlour was to be designed in a small room of the owner’s house located on a narrow street of a residential colony.

"We decided to respond to this situation by creating largely inward looking space, segregated from the house retaining its privacy. The marginal outdoor space adjoining this room, was designed to be an integral part of the parlour. One of the prime constraints was space available at our disposal. Keeping the costs in a stipulated limit, also was a major concern." - Studio Infinity
